The Board

The Board comprises volunteers, all committed to seeing Churchie thrive. Current Chairman Bill Chatterton is the latest in a list of outstanding past presidents - Ian Walker, Greg Vickery, Ian Cameron and original Steering Committee Chairman Mike Evans.

All have provided strong leadership in growing the Foundation to a point where it is set to make an even greater contribution to Churchie as the School approaches its centenary.



Chairman

Bill Chatterton

Bill attended Churchie from 1965-1972. In 1979 he completed a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland. After practising for five years Bill chose another path, and after further study joined the stockbroking industry in 1985. He is currently a director of ABN AMRO Morgans Limited located in the firm’s Brisbane Head Office. Bill is married and has two sons and two daughters.

Mrs E G Stannard

B Econ, MAICD

Elizabeth joined Churchie as Director of Business and Finance in 2008. She is a graduate of University of Queensland and has an extensive background in banking and finance, particularly with the Commonwealth Bank. This financial background, together with more recent experience in the education sector as a Commercial Manager, has equipped Elizabeth well for her role. She also has the experience of chairing the Foundation of another large independent School.



Director

Dr Jane Wilson MBBS, MBA, FAICD

Dr Wilson is a professional company director with a background in medicine, finance, banking and consulting and has extensive experience in the commercialisation of research in both agricultural and biotechnology sectors.

She has a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School where she studied agribusiness and the health sector.  

Jane is the current Chairman of IMBcom (the commercialisation company of the Institute for Molecular Bioscience) and a Director of CathRx Ltd, UQ Holdings Ltd, Universal Biosensors Inc. and Union College.  Dr Wilson is Finance Director of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and is a member of the Premier’s Smart State Council and the University of Queensland Senate.

Jane is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, past President of the AICD Queensland Division and was the inaugural Chairman of Horticulture Australia Ltd from 2000 to 2004.  She has recently concluded her six year directorship at the National Archives Advisory Council.

She is involved in a number of charitable and cultural organisations and has also served on the Queensland Government Biotechnology Taskforce and the boards of Energex Ltd, WorkCover Queensland, AGEN Biomedical Ltd and Protagonist Ltd.



Director

Craig Spencer FAICD

Craig attended Churchie from 1969 to 1975.  He then joined the family business, Carter & Spencer Group, a leading fresh fruit and vegetable company with operations throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia, where he is now Managing Director.  The Group exports, imports, distributes and grows fresh fruit and vegetables for supermarket chains globally.

Craig is a Director on several external Boards including the City of Brisbane Investment Corporation, Foodstuffs Fresh Ltd, The Australian Ballet and the Produce Marketing Association Australia / New Zealand Council.

Craig is married to Christine, and they have four children, Georgina, Christopher and Matthew (twins and 3rd Generation Churchie Old Boys 2008), and Lily.



Director

Dr Bill Glasson AO

Bill was born in Winton, Western Queensland where his parents operated a remote property. His father was a Queensland cabinet minister.  Bill was initially schooled by correspondence before boarding at his father’s old School, Churchie.

After completing a Diploma of Applied Science – Optometry, he studied medicine at the University of Queensland.  Following graduation in 1980 he went to England where he did post-graduate studies in ophthalmology. He returned to Australia in 1988 and began private practice in Brisbane.  Subsequently he expanded into rural outreach services at Longreach, Blackall, Barcaldine and Winton.

Dr Bill Glasson was elected Federal President of the Australian Medical Association in May 2003, and was re-elected to a second term in May 2004.  He has been actively involved in the AMA and his professional College, holding several positions with these organisations including President of the AMAQ for 2000-2001.

Bill holds an Honorary Fellowship to the RACGP, is Federal Vice President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, Chairman of Cancer Australia, a consulting ophthalmologist to the Australian Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and has worked in a voluntary capacity in various indigenous communities and East Timor.

In 2008 Bill was awarded the Order of Australia for his services to medicine through contributions to people in rural and remote areas, to the eye health of Indigenous people, and to the professional medical organisations.

Bill's wife, Associate Professor Claire Jackson is a General Practitioner and together they have two daughters, Gemma and Nicola and a son, William who is in year 12 at Churchie.



Director

Russell McCart

Russell attended Churchie from 1968 to 1974, joining Tubemakers of Australia as a Management Cadet in 1975. He completed a Bachelor of Business Management at QIT (now QUT) in 1979. After several years living in the USA, Russell joined AV Jennings, rising to the position of General Manager of the Housing and Land Development Group. He later started Mirvac in Queensland, then in 1997 helped to establish Meridien, another leading development company. Russell is a keen sailor who has competed in numerous major events including the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
